25-Year-Old Disabled Veteran Mother Of Three Seeking Government Housing Grant

by Katie Knotts
(Grand Island, Nebraska, USA)

I am a 25-year-old disabled veteran mother of three. I'm unable to work due to the foot problems I incurred while I was in the military.

My husband and I are trying to come up with the down payment for a better house than the two-bedroom trailer our family of three children live in now, but we are unable to do that.

I underwent one reconstructive foot surgery on July 27th and am to undergo the second surgery after the first of the year. I am unable to work and provide for my family like I did for the five years I was in the military.

We are currently living off my VA disability check, which isn't very much. My husband has had to take numerous days of work to help care for me and our children.

Right now we live in a two-bedroom trailer. We have three children, one boy and two girls and are trying to buy a house to help stabilize our children's lives and give them something better than what we have now.

We are unable to come up with a down payment to put on a house so our hopes keep getting flushed down the toilet. We have helped so many people when we are struggling ourselves and it seems like karma is against us.

We are trying to move to a better part of town from the trailer court we live in, but our financial burdens are keeping us from doing that.

All I want is to have a place we can call home and raise our children right. I have numerous problems from leaving the military and after spending two years in Iraq.

I have constant headaches, severe anxiety and lots of depression not to include the foot problems I am also going through.

We have to travel two hours for the VA in Omaha, Nebraska to get the medical treatments and services I need which also take up quite a bit of our money.

My family and I would be very appreciative of any financial assistance anyone could help us with to achieve getting a new home and a better place to live in.

Thank you for taking the time to listen to our concerns and hopefully there is someone out there who is willing to help. Thank you for your time and God Bless.
