Accident Disabled Single Dad Seeks Car Donation Or Vehicle Grant Money

by Wayne
(Akron, Ohio, USA)

My name is Wayne. I am a 50-year-old accident disabled father of four children. My youngest is nine and lives with me part time.

I grew up in Virginia Beach, but moved to Ohio to be with my youngest child since my other children were almost grown.

I am engaged to a woman who started out as a friend trying to help me get through and became so much more.

Back in 1990/91 I fell almost three stories. I broke my right ankle and leg, left knee, fractured a vertebra and messed up two discs in my back.

Due to this, one leg is a little longer than the other. I have been through multiple surgeries and have recently had my left knee replaced.

I have been on disability since 1991 and am on SSI.

Since I have been on disability I have been unable to work. I have had so many doctor bills that they garnish my check from time to time and I have been unable to take care of some of the basic necessities.

I do not have a car and have to either borrow a car to take myself or my son to appointments.

Paying for regular bills or just the basic things sometimes gets hard. I have had to borrow money from friends and family at times to get medications and the supplies I needed after my most recent surgery.

I have also had to start going to food banks to make it through the month with groceries.

I have tried to work in the past. I worked in a school system as a janitor, but was told I couldn't earn more than a couple hundred dollars a month so I had to stop.

I have done some odd jobs for people and when I first got hurt I was on SSDI, but recently found out I am now getting SSI.

As I stated before I do get a little help occasionally from family and friends, but they can only help so much.

I am really looking for help getting a vehicle, either a purchase or a donation. I'm not looking for anything great, just a car that will not break the bank in repairs or gas.

I would like to be able to take myself and my child to appointments when needed and to visit my family in Virginia.

I have tried in the past putting my name on donation lists but never got a response.

I have tried to save money for one on my own, but something always comes up and the money must be used for something else.

Hi Wayne,

You could try this site it has some ideas. Other than that, you could try posting on a neighbourhood billboard, convenience store, laundromats, wherever they have them, but here is the site:

Hi Wayne, I hope this is a good day for you. If I had a car I would give it to you. I gave away my own car almost a year ago because I cannot drive. There is a program in Ohio that will provide transportation, but you have to apply for it through the Department of Family and Human Services. But we live in Ohio where they discriminate against the disabled. The only thing I can suggest is pray, get a bible and get help from a church. GOD does help those who help themselves. Ohio is almost bankrupt because of the corruption of the Governor and his appointed minions. Maybe the next Governor will be more sympathetic. GOD BLESS and don't stop praying.
