Cancer And Heart Disabled Couple Seek Grant Money For Home Repairs
(Clinton, Tennessee, USA)
I am 54 years old, and my husband is 49. We're looking for a grant or any kind of support to help us make essential repairs to our home.
I have carcinoid tumors of the lungs, which is a rare form of cancer, and he is awaiting a heart transplant.
I worked up until shortly after my diagnosis in 2007, when the daycare I worked at for 15 years closed.
He has been sick for a long time. He now wears an LVAD that pumps for his heart, which is dead on one side. He lives on batteries during the day and electricity at night.
I take a shot every 28 days to shrink my tumors since they are inoperable (in both lungs).
Our life has been altered both physically and financially since we spend all our money on trips to doctor, and our basic needs. Our nest egg is now gone.
He is fortunate enough to get a ride free from state to his doctor over 200 miles away and mine is local, but still gas as its cost today, is expensive.
Our home is in bad need of repairs and tonight we sit with little heat. We get a small check from the state since we are raising our grandson and it doesn't go far.
We were able to get a small amount of food stamps since his father and mother don't pay child support.
We have a mortgage for our mobile home and two vehicles. One is a 1995 and the other a 1998. Both are on their last legs and there is no bus transportation here.
We have no family that helps, we get no charity because the county we live in doesn't have much.
Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations are out of question. The one place that does help already took applications.
What we need is some kind of help, monthly, or one time. We need repairs on home to stay here, anything.
Our home needs heat (the furnace went out), and our furniture is collapsing.
If I could, I would do a reliable job online if there was such a thing. I hate begging. I hate to live like this period!!!
I don't want to teach my grandson to do this. This is not the life I wanted for myself or for him!
