Daughter To Help Stroke Disabled Mom With Disability Grant Funding

by Gwen Roberts
(Columbia, SC, USA)

Hi my name is Gwen. I'm from Maryland and currently living in South Carolina.

I have two grown daughters and a grandson and I have a very nice husband of 11 years.

Disability Issues

My mother had a stroke, which left her paralyzed on her left side. She is no longer able to do almost all of the things she used to be able to do.

She can't walk, bathe herself or feed herself. She has dialysis treatments and a feeding tube. She has high blood pressure and a slow heart beat.

Financial Hardship

She gets SS and SSI, which only add up to $728 a month. Thank God that Medicare and Medicaid pay for her transportation and prescription and dialysis.

I pay for her pampers, clothes and stuff she needs to clean around her feeding tube. I buy some food that she likes. Most of it I have to grind up myself because I could not afford to buy it prepared.

Income Efforts

I try to get jobs online to help my husband with some of our bills.

I quit my job to stay at home to take care of my mother because the little bit that I could make would all go a caregiver anyway.

Specific Needs

I need money for a stair lift and wheelchair ramp.

I also need money to help pay off some of my mom's medical bills.
