Diabetes And Colitis Disabled Mom Seeks Grant Help For Disabled Kids

by Renee Thatcher
(Middletown, NJ, USA)

I am a 39-year-old mother of four children ages 19, 18, 16 and 14. They are three boys and one girl.

I am single but with my significant other for 21 years and he is the father to all four children.

I have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, colitis and other health issues. I am taking medication for the diabetes. It is currently under control with diet and weight loss.

My significant other also has health problems. He was diagnosed five years ago with diverticulitis and panic and anxiety disorder.

I am a school bus driver and do not make a lot of money. I am currently the only one working in our family. Sean has to be at home for my children because two of them are disabled and need constant care.

I have a hard time most of the time with my finances to try and give my kids the things they need. I am currently renting a two-bedroom house with six of us living in it.

My work as a school bus driver is seasonal and part-time. I am currently laid off for the summer months. I usually collect unemployment for the summer but I am not eligible due to not enough time earned or enough money earned.

I receive SSI of $1220 a month for my two children and that is what pays for my rent every month.

I am looking for financial assistance for my children for food and school supplies.

We'd also like to give them a little vacation, or at the very least, do some recreational things with them for the time they are out of school.

They have never had anything like this before because we simply cannot afford them.

It is very hard to care of two kids that are in wheelchairs. I get a lot of people asking me how I do it and I simply reply, "I don't know how, but I do. These are my kids and I will do it until I die."

I was blessed from God with my four children, two of which need constant care. God only gives you what you can handle and I was built to handle what I have.

God bless to all in need.
