Laura With Multiple Disabilities Seeks Grants To Cover Basic Living And Medical Costs
I am a 59-year-old woman living alone with limited social contact due to severe Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

I have two adorable grandsons that live 2000 miles away. My two cats and two turtles keep me company.

Disability Issues

I was diagnosed with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Major Depressive disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder just after being admitted to the hospital in the year 1999.

My other medical conditions are:

• Migraines
• Epilepsy
• Autoimmune Disorder
• Myoclonic Jerks
• High Cholesterol
• Hypothyroidism
• Acticon Neosphincter
• Restless Leg Syndrome
• Barrett's Esophagus
• Brain Lesion
• Herpes
• Insomnia
• Chronic Kidney Disease
• Aortic Valve Regurgitation
• Macrocytic Anemia
• Arthritis.

I take approximately fifteen different prescriptions and four over-the-counter medications daily.

Financial Hardship

I receive $1111 from Social Security Disability Income, which may cover my basic needs. My medical insurance is Medicare Part A & B with Part D for prescriptions without a secondary insurance.

My monthly medical bills are approximately $450 and monthly medication cost is $90. I have currently approximately $7000 in outstanding medical bills, which may vary depending on my medical treatments and conditions.

My rent has increased twice in the last few years and will increase again in September 2017. I pay $447 per month, of which, the Housing Authority pays the remainder.

I receive $126 of food stamps each month.

Income Efforts

I am a trained dietitian with a college degree from Oregon State University and graduate from Emory Dietetic Internship Program.

I find it difficult to work outside the home because one of my Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders is triggered by a particular common name.

I know that Social Security Disability Income allows you to earn a certain extra amount without losing your benefits, but the Housing Authority I am not sure about. They may increase my portion of the rent.

Specific Needs

Hi Laura ,
I understand your situation. I am disabled . Because I have seizures every day I keep going by the grace of God. Keep on trying and always say I can, not I can't.

by: John Muthoka

Hi Laura,

It's quite disturbing to see you undergo such a traumatic situation. But I believe God still has a good plan for you, to heal you and give you a good future. Putting your story into writing is taking a vital step towards your solution. Thanks.
