Disabled Woman Seeks Small Business Startup Grant For Pet Sitting

by Jacinda Sue Walsh
(Stevens Point, Wisconsin, USA)

I was 14 when my illness started. I've been diagnosed with schizoaffective and bipolar disorders.

When I was a teenager, my parents just thought I was unruly. I ended up in a psychiatric ward at age 14, and ran away from home several times.

Since that time, I have been in a psychiatric ward numerous times, and I receive extensive counseling from my psychologist and I am on numerous medications to stay healthy to this day.

I am 42 years old, divorced, living on my own with the help of Innovative Services medication management and transportation needs.

I can do all my own cooking, cleaning, etc., but I have in the past tried to commit suicide multiple times due to low self-esteem and depression.

I have often times tried overdosing on my own medication, and the most recent thing I've attempted to do is carbon monoxide poisoning from my car's exhaust tailpipe.

This happened in my last place of residence where I had a car in my garage. I no longer live in an apartment with a garage, but I sold my car for cheap to my niece at the time to prevent any further incidences.

I ended up in the psychiatric ward for 1-1/2 weeks and they changed my medication. The medication I had been on for years was no longer working.

Since that last incident, I moved out of Wisconsin Rapids to Stevens Point, Wisconsin where I am doing incredibly well. I am very stable mentally and emotionally.

I do have respiratory issues. Last year, (2009) I had gotten the swine flu and double pneumonia on top of it. I was on the ventilator for two months to keep me alive.

I survived, thank the good Lord, and I spent three months in St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, Wisconsin where I recovered.

However, during that time, I had a collapsed lung and ended up with two side chest valves to drain my lungs. Toward the end of discharge from there, they gave me a tracheotomy due to my history of frequent pneumonia.

I had lost all my muscle strength and was unable to move my body, and my mom would come every day to see me and feed me my supper.

I went from St. Joseph's Hospital to Crystal River Nursing Home in Waupaca, Wisconsin to rehabilitate my physical strength.

I was there for four months. It has been a long road, but I am most likely getting my trach out this month (August 2010).

I love animals so much and would like to get help funding my business. It's a pet-sitting business, and since some pets are some people's only "babies," and definitely a true family member, they don't want to leave them with just anyone.

I share their love of their pets, or "babies" I like to refer to them as. I have experience as I have done pet-sitting before and I have references, and I would like to make this my full time 24/7 business.

In other words, I will pet-sit any days or times. I let my customers choose what they would like to pay me valued on my worth.

We come to an agreement and they pay 1/2 down when I start the session, and the other half at the end of my session.

I have already started my business but am in need of advertising material, and a decent vehicle so I have a way of transporting the "baby" to a vet if needed in an emergency and to get back and forth to my client's home.

I also need insurance for my pet-sitting business in case of injury, loss of pet, etc. while in my care. I currently have only one source of income, which is SSDI, and I only receive enough to pay my rent and utility and medication copays.

There are times when I don't even have enough food to make it through the month or enough money to do my laundry. But my heart is really in this business.

The joy it brings me is beyond joy; it's truly loving pets. I have a website. It's www.spoilmepetsitting.com. My sister is a web designer and was kind enough to create it and to maintain it for me.

I will be accepting cash, local checks, and credit cards through PayPal. I currently service the Stevens Point, Wisconsin and surrounding areas, but my hope is to grow and service other communities as well.

I have a dream to expand to this level and have employees in the future if needed. If anyone out there is able and willing to help me, it would more appreciated than you can possibly know!

Thank you in advance for your consideration in this matter!! Jacinda Walsh, aka, Spoilme! Petsitting Service.
