Financial Aid To Help Osteoarthritis Disabled Daniel With Debt Relief
by Daniel Kirk
(Rock Hill, SC, USA)
I am a 59-year-old married man living in Rock Hill, SC. My wife is disabled and receives Social Security benefits. We have two grown children and five grandchildren.
I have been a Physical Therapy Assistant for 25 years. I lost my last job because I am physically unable to perform the work. It is very painful trying to bear weight on my left ankle.
I have been on pain medication for three years in order to be able to work. I have chronic pain that has morphed into depression.
I have severe osteoarthritis in my left ankle, both shoulders, and cervical spine. I also have a herniated disc in my lumbar spine.
The doctors have told me that I need joint replacement surgeries on my left ankle and both shoulders. I may have to have fusions in my cervical spine.
I have not been able to get these surgeries because I have not had the Short Term Disability from previous jobs, where I could take off for the surgeries and get paid for being out.
When I did find a job that offered it (my last job), I was let go before I had a chance to use it.
I have just applied for Disability but do not know how long it will take to get a ruling. The lawyer working with me said that he thought I had a strong case.Financial Hardship
My wife and I had to file for bankruptcy two and a half years ago. We had to pay for medical expenses and got in over our heads with credit card debt.
Now that I am unable to work, I believe that our home will go into foreclosure and we will lose our vehicles and other possessions.
I have filed for Disability but do not know how we will pay for medical expenses, food, housing, insurance or utilities while I am waiting for a decision from Social Security Disability.
I will not be able to get the surgeries that I need unless I am on Disability and can file for Medicaid.Income Efforts
I am in desperate need of help. I met with my Pastor today and he is going to take up a love offering for us in two weeks.
I am writing this to hopefully receive a grant for some kind of assistance.
Our families are supportive but there is not enough room for them to take us in.
I am looking into some ideas on working from home using the Internet.
I have applied for Social Security Disability and for food stamps.Specific Needs
I do not know how we will make ends meet until I am able to possibly receive Disability benefits.
I need to speak with someone who can explain the options we may be able to receive from government programs.
Our inability to pay off the bankruptcy will most likely lead to foreclosure on our home and repossession of vehicles.
I need some legal advice to see if there are any options for us.
I have no medical insurance now and cannot afford the Cobra insurance. Therefore, I cannot get the surgeries that I desperately need.
