Grant To Help Guillain Barre Syndrome Disabled Man Until SSD Kicks In

by Edward Simmons
(Houston, TX, USA)

I'm a 46-year-old single father of two kids. My wife walked out on me after my unemployment ran out. I guess she couldn't wait for me to change my life for the better.

I started going back to school while on unemployment, in hopes of getting a better job for my family and me. I have a 3.1 grade point average and only need 15 more credits and I'll have my associate degree.

The reason I wanted to finish school was that I knew I could not do the work I was doing. My body was starting to break down.

Disability Issues

I caught Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) from a flu shot that I received before I went to Germany. My dad was in the military.

To his credit my dad never tried to sue the government, always saying that they paid for my medical bills, but it's left me handicapped for the rest of my life.

I have no movement in both my ankles, which makes it hard to walk, and as I get older it's getting harder to move around.

Being diabetic and having high blood pressure doesn't help any also.

For the last few years I have worked with pain in my legs and back every day.

Financial Hardship

There's no money coming into my house. Without the help from the state there would be no food.

There are a lot of agencies out there that help if you can find them. And so far I've been lucky to stay afloat.

My car was taken because I could not pay the note. Just paying the medical bill is hard. I need dental work for my daughter and myself, but how do I pay for it?

Income Efforts

I have applied for Disability, but that takes time. So far my father, sister and brother have all helped me as much as they can.

I have no skills, but would like a job off my feet. I'm looking for a work-at-home job to make a little money until my Disability is approved.

I can no longer do the jobs I used to. I don't want to live with the pain any more.

Specific Needs

I would love advice on how to get my Disability and a grant to help me go back to school and finish.

I would like a grant to help get a stable place to stay.

Maybe some counseling would be helpful. It's hard for me to stay focused anymore. I think too much about my problems.

Because you were damaged by the military, write to your senator who will help you get VA Disability. You need a lawyer to get SSD. Without one, they will deny you every time.

You are eligible for WIC (women infants and children). But with no wife she will be put on the child support arrears post so wherever she works they will take money out of her check and give to you.

Don't look for a business on the internet. They are scams. Look in white pages for jobs, and family services. That may get you a check for your kids. Go to the library and get a book titled "Grants for Dummies." That will help.

Jesus died for our sins and transgressions. Jesus said sickness was sin. So pray every morning and night. Do not let the devil do to your kids what he has done to you. God bless and let me know how it all works out.
