What About Debt Relief Grants?
Uncle Sam Does Have Money To Give But Not For Debt Relief
Don't be fooled. There's no such thing as "debt relief grants" to help you pay off personal debts.
As a disabled mom or dad, you may not like to hear this, especially if creditors are bullying you.
It makes sense. Think about it.
If grants helped you pay personal debts, people would just go deeply into debt and then ask Uncle Sam to take care of it. That simply would not work.
Good news! There IS definitely a way for you to relieve your financial burden! Money IS available to cover certain expenses.
The trick is to apply to programs for which you are eligible. You use the funds from that program to pay permitted expenses. This frees up money to help you pay down your personal debt.
It's the honest way and the only way.
To start the process, you need to put your story in writing. This is where we come in. On our Disability Help Guide page, we describe that first baby step AND we help you take it, all at no charge.
Is Getting Grants Like Raising Kids?
You know how to love your child. Put the same tender loving care into the process of getting the benefits you're entitled to.
You're a single parent so you know first-hand the love and effort that goes into raising a child.
Getting grants for disabled single parents could no way be the same as raising kids, but there is one big similarity!
You have to "parent" the grant-getting process for it to work. It won't happen all on its own!
The hype about grants makes you think you just have to ask the government for money and they'll give it to you.
The reality is much different.
There are steps you must follow. Here are the main ones:
- Put Your Situation In Writing
- Determine Grants Available
- Learn Grant Evaluation Criteria
- Write Your Grant Application
- Follow Up, Learn, Improve
Being a parent, and a single one at that, you have an advantage over others in understanding the need for a well-nurtured approach.
Following is more detail on each step in the process of getting government grants for disabled single parents, both moms and dads.
Get all your ducks in a row before you run off applying for grants.
Step 1. Put Your Situation In Writing
Putting your situation in writing forces you to make things clear for others (like granting agencies) to understand. You MUST do this step. We can help you, all at no cost. Go to our Disability Help Guide page to learn how.
Step 2. Determine Grants Available
Thousands of grants exist. As a responsible parent, you'll be comfortable getting this information. Compare it to finding a school for your child. Online databases can make this step somewhat easier.
Step 3. Learn Grant Evaluation Criteria
Once you've found a grant program, learn how your application will be evaluated. It's not that different from finding out what criteria qualify your child for a particular school program.
Step 4. Write Your Grant Application
Follow the granting agency's instructions to the letter. Show them how you are helping THEM to meet THEIR goals. Assume they only care about themselves and they don't give a damn about you.
Step 5. Follow Up, Learn, Improve
You likely won't win the first time around. No problem. Figure out what went wrong and start afresh. Your chances of winning improve each time. It's like knowing more about parenting with each additional child.
