20 Year Old Single Mother Seeks Any Kind Of Help To Better Herself
by Antonia Turner
(Chicago, Illinois, USA)
My name is Antonia Turner. I'm 20 years old and I have a one-year-old son named Anthony Davis.
I really don't care about the money. I just need help. I need help in finishing school, getting a job and having my own apartment.
I don't want free handout money. I want to make it on my own but with a little push. I always wanted to finish high school and go to college.
I never thought I would drop out as a single mother. I don't want you all to think that I'm lazy and don't want to do anything with myself because I'm African American and just in it to get a free handout.
I want to do something with myself, like going to culinary arts college. I haven't graduated from high school yet.
Now I'm here living in my mother's house in the basement, where I can't take care of my child the way I want to because I don't have a job. My mom really can't do anything more because she is on disability.
She's in and out of the hospital. She is now a diabetic. She just got out of the hospital because of her breast, which had a melon-sized lump that burst and she almost died.
She just got out of the hospital June 11 on her birthday..
She's always telling me I need to do something with myself so I can help her out since my sisters and brother don't.
I'm trying. I filled out lots of application but no luck with that, I'm going to an alternative school called high school holistic when they start back, because if I go there I can graduate in January.
The reason I want my own apartment is because the house I'm living in is a little crowded. I can't find any peace of mind.
That's the reason I didn't graduate -- I can't concentrate. I have a problem with staying focused. I always have.
In high school I would do well then fall off track. I just want to be a better person for my son's sake. That's all.
If you can help me I can promise you I won't let you down.
