Motorcycle Accident

July 30, 2009, it was my weekend to work the night shift at a local plant. That's when I was left unable to provide for my family.

I was driving my motorcycle to work when a lady at a stop sign made a left hand turn in front of me.

The crash shattered my heel, degloved the bottom of my right foot, broke my tibia, fibula, and a rib, and left me with a terrible road rash.

It wasn't so bad, but I was taken off work for a year. Now it's going to be longer because of an infection has set into the bone of my leg.

I just had my third surgery and one more is certain. Cobra Insurance is $193 a month.

My wife is in school and me too now. She works two jobs, and helps me get around. I need help for my wife because the stress is killing her.

I'm sure I'm depressed mentally but insurance doesn't pay but 20%. Hopefully the infection will clear up.

I take antibiotics intravenously every eight hours. Six months from now I will have the rod removed for good.

It was the woman's fault. She admitted it, and I had three or four people that saw it.

I lost $1,400 on the bike, which I still owe, along with the hospital bills. The first surgery cost $56,000.

But somehow God or karma will get back to me one day. I hope and pray for grant money or equivalent help to turn my life around.

Hi Adam,

Haven't seen any postings lately so hopefully the infection in your foot to bone has cleared up by now.

Drop in and let us know how you are doing, okay?

Many good wishes for you!

A similar experience
by: Roger B.

I had a similar accident in 2005. Just my big toe was degloved ( what a horrible expression!) but the inner side of the foot was a mess. I ended up having a free flap, which is a muscle complete with skin graft from the opposite leg to rebuild that side of the foot. I also lost the end of the second toe. There was some gravel rash on my legs. There was no other damage, yet my mind was affected by the seriousness of my injuries. This has passed.

This stuff takes time to clear up. A bloody minded refusal to give up helps the mind as well as the body to heal. Good luck.

Workers Comp?
by: Anonymous

Get a good workers compensation attorney in the state you were injured, and see if you can file for workers compensation since you were on your way to work!

Good luck!
