Arthritis Disabled Mom Seeks Disability Grant For Daily Needs

by Angela
(Bluefield, WV, USA)

I am 36 years old. I have one daughter who is 18 years old. She lives with my parents.

I have a fiancé named Ronnie. We have been engaged for 7 years now.

I go to church with my neighbor.

I love to draw pictures and plant flowers. I also make my own jewelry.

Disability Issues

I have been declared completely disabled by arthritis over 98% of my body. This includes my feet, knees, hip, hands, and arms.

I have difficulty walking and standing. I usually have braces for both of my feet but they wore out. I haven’t been able to get a new set.

I also wear a brace on my right knee and I have carpal tunnel syndrome in both wrists, severe in the right.

The sciatic nerve in my right hip hurts so bad that I can barely walk at times.

At night both arms go numb from elbows to the tips of my fingers. Due to this, I have a hard time getting any rest at night.

I am also being treated for the symptoms of glaucoma.

Financial Hardship

While I was waiting for my disability to come through, all my bills got behind. I have had to borrow money to keep my house, and the water and electricity on.

I heat with propane. There have been times when I can’t buy any. I would have to use a small electric heater and stay in my bedroom all winter.

I don’t have a car. I have to bum rides to go to doctors or shopping for groceries. I don’t get to shop for food too much now. This is because the welfare department cut my food stamps down to $18 a month.

I have to meet a medical spin down before I can get my medical card back. Thus, for now I can’t go to any of my regular doctors. I have no money to pay them. They won’t see you without it or insurance.

Income Efforts

After two years of waiting, I was finally approved for my disability. It is only enough to pay rent and my utilities.

I have nothing extra to just buy myself something. I borrow from my fiancée, my preacher and his wife, and other friends when necessary.

I have made jewelry and sold it to friends to make money to pay for bills when it became necessary.

I have applied at churches for free food programs just to help with groceries.

Specific Needs

I want a free grant that I don’t have to worry about paying back. I need grants that will help me get things back in order. Maybe give me a chance to find a nice used car. Something to give me the extra security I need to stay ahead.

I just want some relief from worrying about how I’m going to get my bills caught up. This includes keeping groceries and getting to my doctors to help with all my disabilities.

Go online and visit benefits.gov. It is great for a full view of all government agencies from federal to local. There is a survey you should take and a list is made of all agencies that offer benefits you may qualify for with addresses and contact information. Bet there's help you aren't aware of!

Cutting your food stamps may be a mistake in my opinion! I'm feeling that you received a large check for back payments of your disability and now they see your bank balance and cut your food stamps. Disability money cannot be considered asset or income. Creditors can't take it and neither can food stamps treat that lump sum as income or assets. That's how I understand the law! So maybe ask for a supervisor to make sure that your decrease is correct.

Take a look at benefits.gov and if you need help find someone to help you like at your local library.

I am hoping for your good luck soon. Good luck to you!
