Bipolar Seizure Disabled Young Mother Seeks Grant Money For Home Nursing Care
(Clinton Township, Michigan, USA)
I'm 20 years old and mother of a six-month-old baby boy. I have a brother. My mother passed away in early 2007 from breast cancer.
I suffer from bipolar disorder grand mal seizures, which are caused by a cyst growing on my brain. I am unable to drive, work and just be a normal 20 year old.
It's hard not being able to work. I can barely pay my bills or buy my son the things he needs.
I can't drive so it's hard getting to the doctors. I rely on Medicaid transportation, which is always reasonable, and on time.
It's hard to the proper medication that I need through Medicaid, which is the only help I can receive.
Medicaid can't pay for a nurse to come in and help me in my home so it's often hard for me. In the past, I've had a seizure and fallen while at home alone with my son.
I had a nursing job but they laid me off after finding out that I had seizures.
I applied for but was denied my Social Security benefits. I'm still waiting on my appeal decision.
As of now I get $400 a month from the Department of Human services, and they are trying to cut that off.
I'm looking to get help with a grant because since I've got laid off at work I've been unable to keep food in my home and bills paid on time.
A grant will also help me to pay for an in-home nurse.
