Bipolar Seizure Disabled Young Mother Seeks Grant Money For Home Nursing Care

by Mya
(Clinton Township, Michigan, USA)

I'm 20 years old and mother of a six-month-old baby boy. I have a brother. My mother passed away in early 2007 from breast cancer.

I suffer from bipolar disorder grand mal seizures, which are caused by a cyst growing on my brain. I am unable to drive, work and just be a normal 20 year old.

It's hard not being able to work. I can barely pay my bills or buy my son the things he needs.

I can't drive so it's hard getting to the doctors. I rely on Medicaid transportation, which is always reasonable, and on time.

It's hard to the proper medication that I need through Medicaid, which is the only help I can receive.

Medicaid can't pay for a nurse to come in and help me in my home so it's often hard for me. In the past, I've had a seizure and fallen while at home alone with my son.

I had a nursing job but they laid me off after finding out that I had seizures.

I applied for but was denied my Social Security benefits. I'm still waiting on my appeal decision.

As of now I get $400 a month from the Department of Human services, and they are trying to cut that off.

I'm looking to get help with a grant because since I've got laid off at work I've been unable to keep food in my home and bills paid on time.

A grant will also help me to pay for an in-home nurse.

I also have bipolar disorder but not the cyst thing. Sorry it's been so hard on you, but things have to get better, right? Hang in there. God's got both of us taken care of. Just believe things will get better and hopefully they will. I'm looking for help here too. Have you had any luck yet? I'm hoping you get everything you and your son need from here or wherever. God bless you.
