Brain Damaged Single Mom Leah Seeks Grant For Car Repair And Home
by Leah Champagne
(New Iberia, Louisiana, USA)
I am a 39-year-old single mother of two beautiful angels, 7 and 10 years old whom I love and adore.
Getting up every morning and doing my best is all due to them and the support and love of my family.
Disability Issues
At the age of three I was hit by a vehicle and suffered severe brain damage. I was in a coma, died three times and in the hospital for one month and one day.
Over the years I tried working but as I got older it started becoming more difficult. In 2010 I was diagnosed with dementia and became severely depressed but with doctors and counseling I was determined for anything.
My marriage was starting to fall apart after 12 years due to my husband at the time not dealing with my illness. This past year I was also diagnosed with bipolar and borderline personality disorder.
Financial Hardship
I am a single mother on a fixed income and renting a home from a family member; however it's not in the best area. I'm hoping to move closer to the school area for my children and also closer around family and friends.
I live in another town so transporting the kids back and forth gets quite expensive in gas alone and my air conditioning is out in my car at the moment.
I'm also on four meds of which one without insurance is over $400.
Income Efforts
I'm very private and proud of what I've accomplished being a single parent but I want better for my children and for myself.
I receive child support and Disability. It's enough to cover bills and gas and groceries. I'm pretty much living from check to check.
Specific Needs
I'm hoping for help with a grant to help me afford a nice home near the town where my children and I grew up in.
I'm also looking for help to fix the air conditioning in my car.
I also need help with my meds.
