by Tony Swanson
(Libby, Montana, USA)
My name is Tony. I have been married for 20 years to my lovely wife Tami. We have a 16-year-old son Dalton. We're very proud of him.
I joined the US Navy in 1987 where I attended boot camp in San Diego California. Unfortunately I blew my knee out and was honorably medically discharged three weeks before I completed boot camp.

I suffered a back injury in late 1997 while working for an aerospace industry company when I was 30 years old.
I had a very heavy steel part that was in a wooden box start to fall off of the back of the flatbed truck that I was loading it on. I tried to catch it so as to not ruin the part and/or break my toes when it hit the ground.
Instead I felt a sharp pain in my back. A year went by with physical therapy and many different doctors visits only to end up with a back surgery.
For about the first five years things were okay then my back started to get worse.
I was operating my own construction company that employed up to 10 year-round employees when my back hit its worst and the market crashed all at the same time.
The end result was shutting the company down because I couldn't physically do things myself anymore and couldn't afford to pay to have it done for me.
Now I am on a full Social Security Disability benefit.Financial Hardship
As everyone knows it is expensive to raise children. I have one 16-year-old son. It takes every dime we make to pay the bills and get him through his sports and high school.
My wife works at our local hospital in patient accounts and I receive a Disability check each month. All our money goes to pay bills and get our son through school.
I have Medicare and a prescription insurance that pays most of my medical bills. If I didn't have that I don't know how we would make it. I have older vehicles that seem to be always breaking down but we get by.Income Efforts
I am currently receiving Social Security Disability benefits. I am officially allowed to work and make a certain amount of money and still qualify for the benefits.
I have gone back to work only to find out that I just can't do it. I can only be on my feet an hour or so then I have to sit or lie down for a while.
Also employers do not want to hire a person who has to take pain management pills on a regular basis, as they are a liability.
I do woodworking as a hobby and try to sell things, but have not had any luck.Specific Needs
I am currently looking for a grant to purchase my home so I don't lose this one also.
I would also take an affordable loan if I could find someone or an institution that would lend on my home.
My home does not qualify for conventional lending because it is a manufactured home that is a 1974 model. The cut off is 1976.
