Randal Merkley
I am a 62-year-old man living with my 62-year-old wife. I have two grown stepdaughters living on their own.

We have a rat terrier staying at my stepdaughter's place because we are not allowed dogs at our home.

I drive a 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis that needs engine work.

Disability Issues

I was in generally good health until my mid-fifties when I developed Type 2 diabetes. That led to neuropathy in both hands and both legs.

I also developed contractures in both hands. I basically have use of the thumb and next two fingers. The other two are practically useless.

I had two surgeries on my elbows to open up a nerve and now have about 60% of the strength that I used to have in my hands. My legs are weak too, especially climbing stairs.

I also have a protrusion in my neck because of which I have had painful headaches in the morning. Medication has helped.

Financial Hardship

Now unable to work, I receive $1,535 monthly for disability. I also receive $157.24 monthly for a pension. My wife receives $595 monthly for disability.

Together we pay expenses. For July, they are:

Home rental $380
Xarelto for my wife $47
First Premier Bank credit card $25
Huntingburg Municipal Utilities $116.89
CPC charity $20
State Farm Insurance $129.98
All Star cash advance $37.50
Spring Leaf Financial loan $243
Care payment Hospital $91
Memorial Hospital $45
World Vision charity $35
Rent $380
Hoosier account services $20
World Finance loan $173
Daily Herald Paper $15
Sheldon's Pharmacy $47
Scenic Hills Care Center therapy $46.70
Walmart tire $81.31
Dr. Tollett $5
Verizon Wireless phone $178.85
Personal finance loan $210
All Star cash advance $18.75

Income Efforts

I recycle metal in an attempt to acquire income and I'm presently doing surveys with promises of a small return.

Before I got my disability I was receiving aid from the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Reluctantly I have been receiving loans from my mother.

In an attempt to promote an invention idea, I have gotten loans from Springleaf Financial, Personal Finance, and World Finance.

Specific Needs

I am looking for any way to promote an invention idea that I share with my brother. So far, we've invested around $5,000. We need about $8,000 to have an invention company promote the idea.

Making ends meet has particularly gotten harder to do, so any aid in paying off debts would be very much appreciated.

Business Idea

With my brother I am currently trying to get an invention idea promoted by Davisons. So far we have invested about $5,000 in other companies until hooked up with one that will work with us.

The idea is a safety device for all new and existing ladders. It will make ladders safer to use against surfaces that are not flat like trees, poles, etcetera. It minimizes side-to-side teetering.

The market for this idea is worldwide and would benefit anyone with an extension ladder.

Davison's feels confident that the idea will be successful and told us if it did not have potential they would not invest their time in it.

Good job on your story. Your next step is to get the Workbook which shows you how to use your story as a springboard to getting the help you need.
