Disability Grants For PLMD And RLS Disabled Sheryl To Build Online Radio Business

by Sheryl Appel
(Philadelphia, PA, USA)

Sheryl Appel and Daughter
I am a single 54-year-old woman with one child who is 27. I have Periodic Leg Movement Disorder, Restless Leg Syndrome and Attention Deficit Disorder.

I live in Philadelphia Pennsylvania and I am part Russian and part Polish but born in America.

I live with my mother and father who also are disabled. My father is deaf and blind. My mother has diabetes and recently had a stroke, which makes it hard for her to walk.

I recently had to put my 12-year-old dog to sleep because of a brain disorder that left her without the ability to walk. It was very sad for all of us who loved her.

Having worked in radio advertising for over 30 years, I'm passionate about the business. My dream is to build an online business offering radio for free. I'm looking for grants or other funding to make this happen.

Disability Issues

When I was 30, my husband cheated on me and emotionally abused me so I left him. After our divorce was final, he immediately got remarried, which made me very depressed.

I was feeling lonely and rejected and I couldn't understand why it was so easy for him to move on.

So I went to a psychiatrist who misdiagnosed me as bipolar and put me on one medication after another but nothing worked.

He also tried a combination of many medications, which still didn't work.

After years of different medications at age 45, every time I tried to go to sleep my leg kicked violently. It was as if I were kicking a ball across the room. It was impossible to sleep.

That doctor said he didn't know what to do and sent me to a neurologist.

When I went to the neurologist I had a sleep study done. The next day he took my driver's licence away because he said I was unfit to drive without sleeping.

Without my driver's licence I was fired from my radio sales job. The doctor said he didn't know what it was and couldn't help me.

For the next three years I went to practically every doctor in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York for help.

I finally found a doctor who said he knew what I had and could help. He said I was not bipolar and that all those medicines had given me Periodic Leg Movement Disorder (PLMD).

They had taken the dopamine out of my system and caused my one leg to violently kick. The lack of dopamine also caused me to have Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD).

He did help, but explained to me I would have to play a juggling act with the medications. In other words, I could pick the days I wanted to feel better, but it would never go away.

So I have two to three days a week where I feel like I can do things like a normal person, and many sleepless nights.

Financial Hardship

I was awarded Social Security Disability, which pays $1950 a month.

I had a 30-year lucrative career in radio sales earning over $130K a year in commission sales.

When my disability happened I could no longer afford my home, my car or my lifestyle.

Thank God this all happened after my daughter was already in college, which was paid for.

I was left with the Social Security Disability payments and no savings, so I had to move in with my parents.

Income Efforts

To supplement my SSDI, I started an online business (InstaGratify.us), which offers the equivalent of traditional radio stations.

I already have the right people to make this work. Plus in one month we will have over 40+ countries listening and a 5-star Google app.

I currently spend $800 a month on the business, knowing it is an investment in my future as well as others.

It will help me to get off of Social Security Disability, and it will also provide many others with well paying jobs. This includes other disabled individuals, because now that radio is online it can be done at home.

Specific Needs

I am seeking grants for $100,000 to help build the business and to catch up to the other current streaming services like Pandora and Spotify.

Business Idea

I've already started InstaGratify.us -- radio of the future, which will never have fees and will always be commercial free.

All cars will soon have computers in them instead of radios. Broadcast radio will be off the air and streaming music will be the norm and the only way to get music. Music will no longer be free and will cost people anywhere from $60 to $240 a year.

Every other Internet radio streaming service wants a minimum of $10 a month, or has audio commercials, or both. If InstaGratify.us can offer better music, more features, and all for free with no commercials, who would pay for any other music streaming service? No one would!

We want to build a better radio platform, which initially costs money. Once InstaGratify.us is complete, we will get the total listening audience because who would pay for any other streaming music service when you can get it all for free?

Then with my 30+ years of radio advertising sales experience we will be able keep it free because just as broadcast radio has done for 80+ years, we will sell ads on the site directly to advertisers, and not go through Google ads.

That is how we will be able to pay for everything once the site is complete, and keep radio fee free with no audio commercials.

We have a complete business plan that we look forward to sharing with any party willing to fund the development of InstaGratify.us.
