Disability Grants To Help Bipolar And Psychosis Disabled Wendy Get Car And Housing

by Wendy Scott
(Olmstead, Kentucky, USA)

Wendy Scott
My name is Wendy Scott. I'm 48 years old and I live in a rural farming community in Kentucky called Olmstead.

I live with my mother and daughter in a small house. I sleep on the couch because there isn't a bedroom for me.

I've lived here for more than five years. I have two cats. Their names are Pudding and Tom.

Disability Issues

I applied for disability in 2010 after I was injured from my boyfriend beating me. He hit my spine and I couldn't walk for months and now I have nerve damage in both feet and legs.

I'm on a very dangerous level of medication for my nerve damage and it is likely the cause of my chronic kidney failure.

I'm in quite a bit of pain but there's nothing much they can give me that won't further damage my kidneys.

I have been officially diagnosed with bipolar depression with some psychosis and generalized anxiety disorder.

There is also the possibility of PTSD because of years of abuse by different husbands.

I'm on five different medications and I'm better as long as I keep taking my meds. I still have real bad anxiety around large groups of people.

I also have a weakened immune system because of a heredity disease called MEN2 (Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 2). That basically means I can get cancer in any part of my endocrine system.

So far I've had thyroid cancer and a pheochromocytoma on my right adrenal gland. Both organs were removed. I have very low energy sometimes but I also have insomnia.

It also caused an extreme calcium deficiency, which made my teeth break so I had to have them pulled.

I think that's all my medical problems and will probably explain why I'm on Disability.

Financial Hardship

I receive $659 per month in SSI. I couldn't get SSDI because I didn't work enough in the past 10 years.

They take $73 out a month because they said they overpaid me. It wasn't my fault but I still got penalized. I still owe them close to $500.

I live in a house with two people who want me to get out ASAP.

I have nothing saved because I don't work. I want to try and go back to work because what I receive doesn't last the whole month.

Right now I've got $15 in the bank and I need $25 for a bill that's coming out on the 29th.

My mom stays mad at me because she has to take me to my doctor appointments and other places. I feel like I'm worthless because my mom and daughter pretty much told me I was.

I can drive but my mom won't let me drive her car at all, not even with her in the car. She also won't take me to work if I was to have a job. I'd like to have one.

I'm scared to go back to work and have my insurance taken away from me.

I don't know how I'd be able to get all the meds I have to take on a daily basis.

Thank goodness I have Medicaid but I still have medical bills on my credit report because my insurance didn't pay them.

I have no way to save any money because I don't have a car to go to work somewhere. Companies hire people with disabilities and I can do something.

Income Efforts

I've spent countless hours on the computer searching for jobs I can do at home but everything I've seen has either been a scam or I have to have a high school diploma. I plan on getting my GED.

I've had to turn down housekeeping jobs because I don't have a car and no one to take me.

I've been filling out applications for apartments in a bigger city that has buses I could ride to go to work.

I've been working with vocational rehab to get me ready for the workforce.

I've asked family and friends for a loan so I can get a car or for them to cosign my loan but I haven't had any luck at all.

I'm also working with Credit Innovation Group to try and raise my credit score so I could get cheaper insurance and a better job.

Many different companies and organizations look at your credit score and I want mine to look great.

Specific Needs

My main need right now is a loan for a car that I've been looking at. It's a very good deal for the car, which is a Nissan Sentra. They last forever.

I also need the loan so I can pay for six months of insurance on the car.

I also need it to buy cleaning equipment and supplies so I can start cleaning houses again. I did that for about eight years and I'd like to go back to doing it again.

I could get all of this done with $5000 but my bank won't let me borrow it without a cosigner and I don't have one of those.

I also need help with immediate housing. My mother doesn't want me living here anymore and sleeping on her couch.

I need household items such as bedroom furniture and living room furniture.

I don't even have a television anymore cause someone broke into my house and stole my TV and my mother's too.

That's the reason my mom wants me gone because she thinks I didn't lock the house when I left but I know I locked it.

I also need a laptop so I can start online GED classes and then maybe look into a college course when I'm sure about what I want to study.

I have an urgent need for dentures too cause it's hard to get a job if you can't smile. Remember my MEN2 caused my teeth to have to be pulled and I can't afford dentures anytime soon. I have no teeth and very low self esteem because of it.

I could also use some free legal help because I'm paying $99 a month to CIG to get my credit cleaned up.

I want to better my credit score so that eventually if I work hard enough I will be able to afford a piece of the American dream and finally but my first home.

All I need is a little help to get back on my feet again. I had good credit until I got into that abusive relationship. I want to be better than I was so a loan or a grant would help immensely.

Wishing me good luck and having a kind word to say to me would also be very greatly appreciated.

Business Idea

I don't know if it's considered a business when my idea is really about self-employment.

When I lived in Savannah Georgia before I became disabled I cleaned houses in a rich, gated community.

I was in very high demand back then and my clients became very important to me and I felt important to them. They would do anything for me and they trusted me and it felt pretty good.

I want to find something like that in Kentucky or Tennessee or maybe even go back to Savannah.

I would like to start making enough money so I could train someone to clean like I do so I suppose I would need some kind of class in business.

I could really make a business work, even if it's just a small business.

All I need is for someone to have faith in my abilities to make it happen. It's getting hard living in the house with two people that just want me to leave and have no faith in me.

I'm an expert cleaner and organizer and specialize in spring cleaning. I can find many clients that would hire me now but I don't have a car.

It's a vicious cycle, "I can't get a job without a car and I can't get a car without a job." I can't find anyone who will take a chance and cosign my loan.

Thanks for reading my story.

My Ideas for helping you
by: John Renaud

Hello Wendy, I am sorry for your disabilities and problems dealing with them. Every State has help for people with disabilities. HUD near you can offer assistance with affordable housing and even help with Grants to help you also.
Disability.gov is another. Helpmefunds.com caring and a few others you can find on line.

For working it is against the Law for any employer to disapprove your Application unless the job is a safety hazard.

I do not mind helping with your needs in finding different Companies in your area. Let me know if I will be able to keep you on track. jr
