Disability Grants To Help RA And E-coli Disabled Gordon Resume Financial Consulting

by Gordon Summers
(Miami, Florida, USA)

Gordon Summers
I'm a 69-year-old man with a working experience substantially in banking and corporate finance. My wife is an interior decorator.

My educational background is a BS in Finance and an MBA from Fordham University.

In 2016 I wrote and self-published a book entitled "Water for Equity Swap" a book focused on sustainable community development and sustainable entrepreneurship.

The book contains a financial model specific to an irrigation solution for small farmers in the Parish of St. Elizabeth, Jamaica.

Up to July 2016 I was active as a business and financial consultant with short stints as a lecturer in Finance, Accounting and Entrepreneurship.

Disability Issues

In July 2016 I became exposed to a very aggressive strain of E-coli bacteria.

Complicating the issue is the fact that I have a history of Rheumatoid Arthritis, which had forced me to get knee replacements in 1999 and a revision on the right knee in 2004.

The presence of the bacteria compromised the prosthesis in the right knee and was beginning to spread throughout the rest of my body to the extent that my system was septic.

In order to save my life, the right leg was amputated above the knee. A robust antibiotic treatment addressed the residue of the E-coli bacteria.

As of November 2016, I am only now returning to the pre-surgical level of mental awareness.

It had required six separate operations within a five-week period and that left me with an overhang from the numerous narcotics I had to be taking.

I am now wheelchair-bound. Driving is no longer an option unless I make modifications to the car so I rely on my wife entirely for transportation.

At present I cannot perform routine household chores.

Financial Hardship

Whatever gains I had made in my consulting and lecturing was lost in my absence from the marketplace. I now have to start over.

The cost of the surgeries and the absence of income have created a real hardship for me.

I have only my Social Security to sustain me and that cannot allow me to kick-start my revenue-generating resurgence.

Under the circumstances I am relegated to a work-from-home (or office) environment, relying heavily on the Internet as a meeting place and medium.

Income Efforts

Very recently I have sent out applications to entities that will allow me to work in this environment and others that have a focus on hiring people with disabilities.

I have also submitted requests to selected universities that post online lecturing positions.

It is a weak approach and I have had no responses so far.

Specific Needs

The goal is to become self-sufficient. While I have the knowledge I lack the capital and the infrastructure. In order to achieve this, I need a grant to fund the following:

- A complete studio of online equipment to efficiently utilize Internet communication, not just for direct communication but for illustrative and presentation capability

- A vehicle that has the modifications to accommodate my disability

- An office location that can accommodate meetings where Internet capabilities fall short or are impractical

- A budget for advertising

Business Idea

The idea is to provide the same business and financial consulting services I did before. This included business plan preparation, financial projections, and business development guidance.

Also I want to venture in the the area of online lecturing for colleges and universities in the area of finance, accounting, entrepreneurship.

This would all be done out of my home/office, utilizing the Internet for communication.

Don and Ability mission have been a great help to me in lot of different ways. One is just being able to learn about people like you. I have a degree in Environmental Studies. I have an interest in sustainable community development as well as investments and finance. Another nonprofit organization I really like is Heifer International.

I ordered your book the other day. I have not got it yet, but I look forward to reading it when I do.

Hey Gordon!

Congrats on getting your story published! In doing so, you've acquired valuable hands-on experience in responding to precise instructions, the very kind that you will encounter when applying for help of any kind.

You've now earned the right to access the Workbook, which shows you how to use your story as a springboard to getting the help you need.
