Grant To Help Vision Disabled Man With Personal And Medical Debt Relief

by Kevin Bishop
(Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA)

I am 41, married and with a stepson at home. Up until a week ago we had three dogs but now we have two.

Disability Issues

I have glaucoma and nearsightedness. I have always struggled with basic things like riding a bicycle and going out at night.

My glaucoma got worse when I turned 38. I had also developed cataracts.

After the doctor examined me and found out I had cataracts and glaucoma, he wanted to perform cataract surgery to remove the cataracts.

It was successful but the pressure in both my eyes spiked to 40. They tried laser surgeries to reduce the pressure about 20 in each eye. Some of them were with an argon laser.

They even performed two trabeculoplasties in my right eye to reduce the pressure.

They also put implants into each eye and a shunt as a last resort to help the drainage and it has helped so far.

Because of the high pressure lasting for so long though, my vision has worsened.

I have also had two cornea transplants in my left eye and I need a third one soon.

Financial Hardship

We are broke.

Our hot water heater just went out yesterday and we have no hot water now.

I had to take one of my dogs to the vet on the 12th because he fell off the couch and pulled a disc in his back. As a result, he can't walk now on his back legs.

I have lost my TennCare and can't get Medicare till august. My meds for my eyes are expensive. I use about three a day.

Income Efforts

I do get SSDI but that is not enough. I have tried to go back to work part-time but when my pressure is up it makes it hard for me.

Specific Needs

I would like to get some financial help with my medical and personal bills including my dog's vet bill. He is my world and has been for about five years.

Hi Kevin,

First of all, thanks to Ken for the advice and links he suggested.

I have another link for you:

It takes you to a special page on our site that shows you how to use the benefits.gov site, which is the central point for all benefits you might be entitled to.

Let us know how it goes, okay?

Hi Kevin,

Too bad they didn't get it right the first time on your eyes or had some sort of guarantee on the work.

Here is a site that may help with your dog:

And for your hot water problem, try this site:

I hope they can help you Kevin.

Best wishes,
